Rent with Bad Credit
Even if you have bad credit, it’s not impossible to rent an apartment. While bad credit will obviously make your landlord wary of renting you an apartment, there are a few things you can do to rent an apartment with bad credit. You’ll want to:
- Get a copy of your credit report and review all of its issues and correct any errors.
- Write a letter to your potential landlord explaining your credit report and any financial difficulties you may have had.
- Have references – perhaps your current employer and previous landlords? – that will vouch for your ability to pay your rent.
If none of the above impress your future landlord, offer to leave a larger security deposit, find a co-signer or gaurantor for your lease, or even offer to pay a larger monthly rent.
